The Annapurna region offers some of Nepal's most diverse trekking experiences, but the Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp treks are very different journeys. Choosing between them largely depends on how much time you have, how high you want to go, and what kind of landscape you want to experience.
The Annapurna Circuit is a long-distance journey around the Annapurna massif. The route moves through subtropical valleys, pine forests, high mountain landscapes, and the dramatic Kali Gandaki valley before crossing the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters.
The changing scenery is one of the trek's biggest attractions. Within a single journey, you can experience dramatically different climates, landscapes, and communities.
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek follows a more direct route toward the base camp of Annapurna I. The trail passes through villages, forests, and alpine landscapes before entering the Annapurna Sanctuary.
The final approach provides an impressive mountain amphitheater surrounded by peaks including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre.
Choose the Annapurna Circuit if you want a longer adventure with diverse landscapes, high-altitude terrain, and the challenge of crossing Thorong La.
Choose Annapurna Base Camp if you have less time and want to reach a spectacular Himalayan base camp without completing a long circuit.
For an even shorter introduction to the region, treks such as Poon Hill and Mardi Himal provide excellent mountain scenery within a much shorter itinerary.
